Aprilia SR 175 Launched in India with a larger engine, 5 inch TFT display and New colour options

Aprilia launches SR 175 in India replacing SR 160 from its scooter series. Although the scooter bodywork is still virtually the same, there is a step forward for it in its inner mechanism and cockpit as one giant tech progress. Aprilia SR 175 priced at Rs. 1.26 lakh (ex-showroom).

Engine and Performance Upgrades

The SR 175 is fitted with a new 174.7 cc displacement single-cylinder engine. It delivers a top-rated power of 13.08 bhp at 7,200 rpm and 14.14 Nm top torque at 6,000 rpm and motor retains a CVT unit. The new engine takes the place of the previous engine with a displacement of 160.03 cc, which delivered 2 bhp less power and 0.7 Nm less torque.

Improved Riding Experience

SR 175 features 14-inch alloy wheels. It also comes equipped with telescopic front forks and a monoshock rear for its suspension responsibilities, providing the scooter with a smooth ride. The other significant upgrade is to the rider interface: Aprilia has replaced the previous LCD unit with a brand new 5.5-inch color TFT display. The display itself looks very similar to the one on Aprilia 457 twins, RS 457, and Tuono 457. The scooter also comes equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, USB charging socket, and full-LED lighting.

Braking and Design

The braking system remains the same as the past models. There is a 220 mm disc brake in the front which is supplemented by a drum brake at the back. There is a single-channel ABS system that assists the braking system. Aprilia does not alter the appearance of the scooter visually. The body shape retains the same look as the SR 160. Aprilia just introduces new decals and colors to make the scooter look new. There are two new color finishes: Matte Prismatic Dark and Glossy Tech White. While there are cosmetic changes, attacking lines and stance of SR 175 still express Aprilia's sports aspirations.

Market Position and Analysis

Aprilia SR 175's enhanced performance positions Aprilia's sport scooter more forcefully in the market. This makes it especially attractive to consumers who value sporty riding and driving quality. SR 175 competes with bikes like Hero Xoom 160 and Yamaha Aerox 155 in India.

Analysis

Aprilia's introduction of SR 175 in India is an example of the trend of renewing hot products through performance and technology updates. Introducing a bigger engine and digital display is Aprilia's way of meeting customer needs for improved performance and newer technology. Designing a comfortable product with an updated core is the way Aprilia is able to introduce an enhanced product without a radical reworking. The acquisition solidifies Aprilia's position in India's highly competitive scooter market, the sporty segment, and enables it to appeal to riders wanting a fun and technologically advanced two-wheeler.
