The Toyota Innova Hycross has earned a full five-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP crash test program. This popular MPV showed strong results in both adult and child protection, marking it as one of the safest vehicles tested under India’s new safety standards. Its modular TNGA-C platform seems to be a key reason for these impressive scores.

Strong Protection for All Occupants

In the Adult Occupant Protection assessment, the Innova Hycross scored 30.47 points out of a possible 32. For Child Occupant Protection, it achieved 45 points out of 49. These scores place the Hycross among the highest-rated vehicles tested under the Indian protocol so far. The vehicle’s five-star Bharat NCAP rating is supported by a full set of standard safety features that protect people in key areas.

Tested models included the petrol GX 8-seater, along with the hybrid VX 8-seater and ZX 7-seater versions. When a frontal crash happens, both the driver and front passenger are protected by standard airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners, and load-limiters. However, the rear seats do not have belt aids, and there are no knee airbags. For side protection, curtain airbags cover all three rows.

For child safety, the Hycross has ISOFIX mounts on the outer rear seats. But it does not have built-in child restraint systems or ISOFIX access in the front. There is a manual switch to turn off the front passenger airbag if needed. Other safety features include electronic stability control (ESC), systems to protect pedestrians that meet AIS-100 standards, and seatbelt reminders for all three rows.

Detailed Crash Test Performance

In the Adult Occupant Protection tests, the Innova Hycross gained 14.47 points in the frontal offset deformable barrier test. Both the driver and front passenger received ‘adequate’ chest protection ratings, and the driver’s left lower leg (tibia) was also rated ‘adequate.’ All other body areas were marked ‘good.’ The side impact test was perfect, yielding a full 16 out of 16 points, with ‘good’ protection recorded for every body part. The side pole impact assessment received an ‘Ok’ score.

For Child Occupant Protection, the Hycross scored a perfect 24 points in the Dynamic test and a full 12 marks for Child Restraint System (CRS) installation. The remaining 9 points came from the vehicle assessment section. The evaluation used child dummies representing 18-month and 3-year-old occupants, following the standard protocol.
