Xiaomi YU7 EV SUV Gets 2.89 Lakh Bookings Within Just 1 Hour
With 2.89 lakh bookings in 60 mins, Xiaomi YU7 EV SUV redefines market entry.
Xiaomi’s first electric SUV, the YU7, has seen a remarkable start in the Chinese market, gathering over 2.89 lakh (289,000) orders within just one hour of its price announcement. This strong demand highlights the immediate interest in Xiaomi’s entry into the competitive electric vehicle segment. The YU7 is available in three versions: Standard, Pro, and Max, with prices starting from RMB 253,500 (approximately Rs. 30.23 lakh).
Variants and Pricing
The YU7 comes in three distinct models, each designed to cater to different preferences and performance needs. The Standard variant, which is rear-wheel-driven, carries a price tag of RMB 253,500. For those seeking enhanced traction and power, the Pro version offers all-wheel-drive capabilities and is priced at RMB 279,900 (around Rs. 33.37 lakh). Topping the range is the Max variant, built for high performance and superior all-wheel-drive traction, available at RMB 329,900 (roughly Rs. 39.34 lakh). This tiered pricing strategy aims to attract a broad spectrum of electric vehicle buyers.
Design Philosophy and Exterior Features
Xiaomi put a lot of thought into the YU7’s look, focusing on its overall shape and how it sits on the road. The car features a long, sculpted hood and wide rear shoulders, giving it a distinct appearance. Its design uses specific ratios: a 3:1 ratio for the wheelbase to the body, and a 1.25:1 ratio for width to height. These numbers help create both a sporty look and good airflow for better performance. At the front, a deep crumple zone, extending 659 mm, adds to its visual strength and provides extra protection in a crash.
Color Options, Wheels, and Range
Buyers can choose from nine different exterior colors for the YU7. These include familiar shades like Lava Orange and Basalt Grey, as well as new options such as Dawn Pink and Shadow Teal. Some colors have metallic flakes and pearl elements to make them shine differently in various lighting conditions. The car also offers alloy wheels in sizes ranging from 19 to 21 inches. The base long-range model, equipped with 19-inch wheels, can travel up to 760 km on a single charge, according to the CLTC (China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle) standard.
However, opting for the larger 21-inch wheels, especially with Michelin Pilot Sport EV tires on the Max variant, reduces the range to 670 km. Some 21-inch wheel options also come with special floating center caps and Brembo brake calipers in red or yellow. These details add to the car’s premium feel and performance capabilities.
Interior Comfort and Technology
Inside the YU7, Xiaomi offers four different color themes for the cabin. A new Ash Grey & Iris Purple dual-tone option joins the existing Pine Grey, Coral Orange, and Twilight Blue. The materials used inside, covering 17 square meters, are OEKO-TEX certified, meaning they are safe for skin contact. These high-quality materials are used extensively in areas people touch often. The Nappa leather seats further enhance the luxurious feel.
For comfort, the front seats are zero-gravity recliners with a 10-point massage function. The back seats also recline and are heated, with a 135-degree adjustment range. When the rear seat is folded flat, it creates a 1.8-meter bed. The rear headrests are thicker for better side support. Even with its sleek, coupe-like shape, the cabin is spacious, offering 100 mm of headroom in the front, 77 mm in the back, and 73 mm of legroom for rear passengers.
The interior also has many storage options, including 36 compartments. These include a glovebox with a password lock (13.7 liters), a rear drawer for small items, and a 4.6-liter smart fridge. The trunk in the back can hold up to 687 liters, and with the second row folded down, this expands to 1,758 liters. A front trunk adds another 141 liters of storage.
Other notable features include a 25-speaker audio system tuned by Xiaomi with Dolby Atmos, two wireless phone chargers with cooling vents in the center console, sun visors with adjustable lighting, anti-glare mirrors, and blind-spot monitoring mirrors. Air quality is managed by a large HEPA filter, and the airflow is designed to be soft and indirect. A rapid-refresh mode can clean the cabin air in just 35 seconds. The YU7 is positioned above the SU7 sedan in Xiaomi’s electric vehicle plans. While deliveries have started in China, when it will be available in other markets is not yet known.
