Mahindra is getting ready to expand its electric vehicle lineup, specifically with new versions of its XEV 9e model. The goal is simple: give customers more options and make this electric car even more appealing in a market that's quickly embracing electric vehicles.
The XEV 9e first hit the market in March. Right now, it comes in several configurations: Pack One, Pack Two, Pack Three Select, and Pack Three. The first three are standard-range models, meaning they offer a good, practical driving distance. The Pack Three also has a long-range option for those who need to go further.
Recent government documents, which often reveal a company's plans before official announcements, show what Mahindra has in store. They indicate that a long-range version of the Pack Three Select is coming soon. This is good news for buyers who want the maximum driving range but don't necessarily want to buy the most expensive Pack Three model. It offers a new level of flexibility.
These same documents also suggest a standard-range version of the top-tier Pack Three is on its way. This move makes the fully-equipped Pack Three more accessible. If a buyer wants all the premium features but doesn't need the longest range, they won't have to pay extra for it. It's about matching the car to the customer's actual needs.
Understanding Power and Range Options
Let's look at the technical details. The standard-range XEV 9e uses a motor at the back. This motor delivers 170 kilowatts, which translates to about 228 horsepower, and 380 Nm of torque. It's paired with a 59 kWh LFP battery. On a full charge, this setup allows the car to travel up to 542 kilometers.
For those who need more distance, the long-range version steps up. It features a more powerful motor, also at the back, producing 210 kilowatts (282 horsepower) and the same 380 Nm of torque. This variant uses a larger 79 kWh LFP battery, extending the driving range significantly to 656 kilometers.
Pricing and Market Strategy
Currently, the XEV 9e starts at ₹21,90,001 for the Pack One Standard-Range. The top-end Pack Three Long-Range is priced at ₹30,50,000 (all prices are ex-showroom, meaning before additional taxes and fees).
The new variants, including the long-range Pack Three Select and the standard-range Pack Three, are expected to fit into the ₹28-30 lakh (ex-showroom) price bracket. Mahindra could launch these new options as early as July, adding them to showrooms soon.
Mahindra's Broader Electric Vision
These new XEV 9e variants are part of Mahindra's bigger picture for electric vehicles in India. The company has a clear goal: electric cars should make up a significant portion of its sales in the coming years. Mahindra plans to introduce seven electric vehicles by 2030, with new models starting to appear from 2025. This shows a serious commitment to the electric vehicle market.
