Skoda Kushaq Sales: Over 1,800 Units Sold Monthly Since Launch
Skoda’s Kushaq SUV leads with 1.5L turbo, 5-star safety rating, and 89,000+ units sold since 2021
The Kushaq SUV has been a strong seller for Skoda Auto India, with the carmakers stating that they have sold over 89,000 units since its launch on 28 June, 2021. That’s an average of 1,854 compact SUVs sold per month for the company. As per Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, SIAM, the Kushaq accounts for about 77 percent of Skoda’s overall SUV sales in the country.
Made in India: Platform and Localization
The Kushaq is built at Skoda Auto Volkswagen India’s factory in Chakan, Pune. It has a high localization rate of 95 percent, meaning most of its parts are made in India. This SUV was the first product under Skoda’s ‘India 2.0’ plan. It uses the MQB A0 IN platform, which is a special version of Volkswagen’s MQB platform made for the Indian market. This same platform is also used for other cars like the Skoda Slavia, Skoda Kylaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and Volkswagen Virtus.
Sales Performance Over the Years
In its first full financial year of sales, FY22, the Kushaq sold 21,427 units. Sales grew even more in FY23, reaching an impressive 25,300 units, making it the best sales year so far for the model. In FY24, Skoda India sold 23,396 units of the Kushaq. In FY25, 17,363 units were sold. However, in the first two months of FY26, Skoda India has sold only 1,427 units.
Safety, Engines, and Pricing
The Kushaq, along with the Volkswagen Taigun, was among the first vehicles to get a full 5-star crash test rating from Global NCAP. This rating was given under new, tougher testing rules. The Kushaq offers two engine choices: a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine or a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. These engines can be paired with different transmissions: a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic, or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Skoda’s compact SUV is priced from Rs 10.99 lakh to Rs 19.11 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It competes with other SUVs in the market, such as the Volkswagen Taigun, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Honda Elevate, and Tata Curvv.
Analysis
With sales numbers of over 1,800 every month on an average, the Skoda Kushaq has established itself as a strong contender in the crowded SUV segment in India. This is one of the main reasons for its success as it is very localized and has a 5 star safety rating, which is very appealing for buyers looking for quality and safety. Though the most recent FY26 sales numbers reflects a decline, but overall the Kushaq has had a positive journey since it’s launch. Its various engine and transmission choices, as well as competitive pricing also help set it apart. Skoda is serious about its operations in India and the Kushaq is an important vehicle for the company and its strategy in the country .
