Kia Carens Clavis EV Debuts July 15: India’s First 7‑Seater Electric MPV
Meet the Carens Clavis EV: 7 seats, Creta EV batteries, fast charging & safety tech. India launch July 15, priced ₹16–18 L.
Kia is about to launch a new electric vehicle for families in India. The Kia Carens Clavis EV is making its debut on July 15 and will be the first 7-seater electric MPV in the country. This move is part of Kia's plan to strengthen its presence in the Indian car market.
Recently, Kia has rolled out several new models. They introduced the Syros SUV in February, followed by the Carens Clavis MPV in May. Now, the electric version of the Carens Clavis is next in line. This new vehicle aims to provide a roomy and eco-friendly option for bigger families, blending the features of an MPV with electric power.
What to Expect in Terms of Power and Charging
To keep costs down, the Kia Carens Clavis EV will probably use the same electric system as the Creta Electric. This means buyers might choose between a 42 kWh battery and a 51.4 kWh battery. For the Creta Electric, these batteries offer ranges of 390 km and 473 km. The Clavis EV, being larger and heavier, might have a shorter range. The front will feature a charging port, and both AC and DC fast charging options will be available. With an 11 kW AC charger, the 42 kWh battery can fully charge in about 4 hours, while the 51.4 kWh battery will take around 4 hours and 50 minutes. A 50 kW DC fast charger can boost both batteries from 10% to 80% in just under an hour. The Clavis EV may also come with regenerative braking tied to ADAS and possibly paddle shifters.
Shared Features and Design
The Clavis EV will include many features from the Creta Electric, like rear AC vents and the ability to power external devices. It will share several elements with the gasoline model of Carens Clavis, such as a special front passenger seat function, a dual panoramic display, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and ventilated front seats for added comfort. There will also be a smart air purifier and a BOSE sound system with 8 speakers.
Spy photos suggest the Carens Clavis EV will look similar to the gasoline version, featuring LED DRLs with turn signals, MFR LED headlamps, and connected tail lights. It will have strong front and rear skid plates, but the electric model will sport unique touches like wheels designed for better efficiency.
Safety and Pricing
Safety is a priority for the Kia Carens Clavis EV. It will have a solid safety package with six airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, and more. All wheels will have disc brakes as well. It will come with advanced ADAS Level 2 features, providing around 20 autonomous functions to help drivers.
To boost electric vehicle sales, the Kia Carens Clavis EV may start at a price between INR 16-18 lakh, aiming to make electric cars more affordable. Kia also plans to introduce more budget-friendly electric vehicles in the future, including electric versions of the Syros and Seltos, plus models like the Kia EV3 and EV5.
In Summary
The Kia Carens Clavis EV is stepping into the Indian electric vehicle scene as a first-of-its-kind 7-seater. By sharing technology with the Creta Electric, Kia seeks to keep costs low while offering good range and charging options. The strong focus on safety and tech will likely help attract buyers. Its success will depend on competitive pricing and how well it balances practicality with electric features. This launch could pave the way for more electric MPVs and strengthen Kia's position in India's changing EV market.
