Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Hits 5 Lakh Production Mark
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India hits 5 lakh cars produced from Pune and Aurangabad plants.
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has reached a major production milestone, announcing that its total output has now gone past five lakh (500,000) cars. This impressive number comes from its two manufacturing plants in India: Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (formerly Aurangabad). This achievement is part of a double celebration for the brand, as Skoda marks 25 years in India and 130 years since it was first founded globally.
Skoda's journey in India began in 2001 when the first Octavia car rolled off the assembly lines in Aurangabad. Since then, the range of models has grown significantly. Early models like the Laura, Superb, and Kodiaq helped build the brand's presence. More recently, newer cars such as the Kushaq, Slavia, and the compact Kylaq have helped Skoda connect with a wider group of customers.
About 70 percent of the cars that contributed to this five lakh milestone were built at Skoda's Pune factory. The remaining cars came from the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar plant. Together, these factories have become central to Skoda Auto Volkswagen India's operations. Their importance now extends beyond India, as Skoda has started using its Indian supply chain to support other markets. A notable example is Vietnam, where the group recently opened a new production unit that assembles the Kushaq and Slavia using parts sourced from India.
This means that the Indian facilities are now a key part of Skoda's global plan, serving as a base for both exports and assembly. The company's sales have also grown along with its production progress. In March 2025, Skoda achieved its highest monthly sales ever in India, delivering 7,422 units. This growth is due to increased local manufacturing, better access to dealerships, and a focus on both big cities and smaller, developing towns.
From January to June 2025, Skoda's total wholesale sales reached 36,194 units. This figure is more than double last year's performance for the same period, showing a 134 percent increase over the first half of 2024. It also comfortably beats the company's previous half-year record of 28,899 units, which was set in 2022.
Skoda is now among the top seven car manufacturers in India by sales volume. This is a first in its 25-year history in the Indian market. A big reason for this jump was the introduction of the Kylaq, the brand's first SUV that is less than four meters long. Since its launch in November 2024, the Kylaq has helped attract new buyers and expand Skoda's reach into smaller towns across Tier 2 and Tier 3 regions.
