Ather Energy to Unveil Faster Charging, EL Platform & Stack 7.0 in August
Ather Energy will reveal its EL scooter platform in August - Affordable e-scooter, faster Grid chargers & Ather Stack 7.0 in India soon.
Ather Energy will soon reveal its new electric scooter platform, called 'EL'. This event is set for the company's yearly Community Day in August. The exact date for this reveal is not yet public. Ather plans to display the new EL platform, along with some concept models that use this new base for electric scooters. Right now, Ather is the only well-known electric vehicle brand that does not sell a scooter for under Rs 1 lakh. Other companies, such as Ola, TVS, Bajaj, and Hero, all have models in this price range.
Plans for a More Affordable Scooter
Earlier this month, news came out that Ather was looking to bring an electric scooter to the Indian market that would cost less than Rs 1 lakh. In fact, a picture of the new scooter’s headlight design even showed up online without being officially released. Putting these pieces of information together, it now seems quite clear that this upcoming, more affordable electric scooter from Ather will be built on the new EL platform. It could be available for sale in the next few months.
Faster Charging and Software Updates Are Coming
Besides showing new scooter ideas and the EL platform, Ather Energy might also talk about its next-generation Grid fast chargers. These new chargers are said to be quicker and more convenient than the ones they use now. The current Grid chargers can add 1.5 kilometers of range per minute to Ather electric scooters. For Hero Vida e-scooters, they add 1.2 kilometers per minute.
Ather Energy and Hero MotoCorp have an agreement. This means electric scooters from both brands can use each other’s fast chargers without paying. Vida electric scooters use a charger connector that Ather made open for everyone. Because of this, they work well with Ather’s Grid fast charging network.
Also, Ather Energy is expected to launch the newest version of its software. This is called Ather Stack 7.0. It will come with updated features for the scooter. Last year, at the 2024 Ather Community Day, the company launched the Rizta electric scooter. This scooter has already sold over 1 lakh units in India.
The Electric Scooter Market: Who Else Is There?
Ather has other companies they compete with, like Ola and Bajaj. These companies already sell electric scooters that cost less money. TVS is also working on a new electric scooter called the Orbiter. This scooter might be ready to buy around the Diwali festival later this year. Hero plans to launch its Vida VX2 electric scooter on July 1. This model will offer a battery-as-a-service (BaaS) plan, which could make it very affordable for buyers.
What This Means for Ather
Ather Energy’s plan to bring out the ‘EL’ platform and a cheaper scooter is a big step. This move helps Ather fill a gap in the market. Right now, they do not have a scooter that costs less than Rs 1 lakh, unlike some other companies. Their focus on faster charging and better software shows they want to make things easier for people who buy their scooters. This is very important as more electric vehicles come out. The deal with Hero MotoCorp, where they share chargers, also makes it easier for everyone. All these steps, along with new products, suggest Ather wants to sell more scooters and do better in the growing electric scooter market in India.
