Yamaha India has introduced this 5-year Roadside Assistance (RSA) program for its existing customers in the country. It covers a wide range of emergencies and provides 24-hour support across India. This service is available for 5 years at just Rs. 975 / - can be obtained with payment. The Japanese brand has also recently launched a 10-year total warranty program (2+8 years extended warranty) for its customers in the Indian market. Yamaha is celebrating its 40th anniversary in our country and has announced these customer-centric initiatives to mark the occasion.
What's included in Yamaha’s RSA plan
The 5-year RSA program includes towing support in the event of an accident or vehicle breakdown. It also offers battery jumpstart assistance and flat tyre support. Customers will be able to avail running repair services for minor issues and medical assistance in case of emergencies. All of these features are offered as standard under Yamaha's 5-year RSA program.
Yamaha's first electric scooter in India
Meanwhile, in other news, Yamaha is working on its first electric scooter for the Indian market. Codenamed RY01, the scooter is based on the River Indy. The e-scooter was first spotted during test runs a few days ago. The Yamaha RY01 electric scooter is expected to be launched in India by the end of 2025. The scooter will be manufactured at the company's manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. However, the retail operations will be carried out only through Yamaha dealerships in India.
RY01 specs and design highlights
The River Indy is quite heavy in terms of weight, as it crosses the 143 kg scale. Moreover, it has the best under-seat storage capacity in the 44-litre segment. However, the Yamaha e-scooter can be expected to be relatively light in weight. It actually borrows some elements from the Indy in the form of 14-inch wheels, a 6-inch full-color LCD screen, and a swingarm.
RY01 battery, range and price
The Yamaha RY01 shares a 4kWh battery pack with the River Indy, which has a range of nearly 100 km on a full charge. The battery is linked to an electric motor with a maximum power output of 9 bhp and a top speed of 90 kmph. The price is Rs. 1.44 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru), while Yamaha's first electric scooter is slightly more expensive at Rs. Rs 1.50 lakh.
Yamaha’s EV platform and future plans
The Japanese two-wheeler brand, along with inputs from other global R & D and engineering teams in India, is also working on their own global EV platform. Yamaha plans to bring the first scooter based on this new in-house development platform to the market by 2026-27.
