Vietnamese EV manufacturer VinFast is preparing to launch its first fully electric SUV, the VinFast VF7, in India soon. Ahead of its official launch, the electric SUV was spotted for the first time in Mumbai, likely as part of its pre-launch testing phase.
VF7 Test Vehicle viewed for the First Time on Indian Roads
To suit Indian road conditions, the test vehicle is fitted with 245/50 R19 Apollo Aspire tires and 19-inch alloy wheels, replacing the earlier showcased 20-inch Goodyear tires.
Technology Features: ADAS and Infotainment
The VF7 hints at several advanced technology features. Cameras are visible on the wing mirrors and bumpers, indicating the presence of a 360-degree camera system and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
Inside the cabin, a large floating touchscreen display can be partially seen. It could be either the 12.9-inch or the larger 15-inch unit offered globally, though this is not confirmed yet.
Engine, Battery & Variants
The VinFast VF7 is available in two variants in international markets:
- VF7 Eco
- 204 hp power, 310 Nm torque
- Front-mounted single motor
- 75.3 kWh battery
- WLTP range: 450 km
- VF7 Plus
- 354 hp power, 500 Nm torque
- Dual-motor AWD setup
- Same 75.3 kWh battery
- WLTP range: 431 km
It remains to be seen whether both variants will be offered in India.
Launch Date, Pricing & Local Assembly Plans
The VinFast VF7 is expected to launch in India by October 2025, coinciding with the Dussehra-Diwali festive season. VinFast will assemble the SUV locally at their new facility in Tamil Nadu.
Regarding cost, the VF7 is probably going to be priced competitively between Rs. 20 lakh and Rs. 30 lakh. To make the initial cost more affordable, VinFast may also introduce a battery leasing model (Battery-as-a-Service), similar to MG Motor India’s approach.
Competitors: Direct Rival to BYD Atto 3
Once launched, the VinFast VF7 will directly rival the BYD Atto 3, which is priced between Rs. 24.99 lakh and Rs. 33.99 lakh. The Atto 3 is available with 49.92 kWh and 60.48 kWh battery options, offering ARAI-certified ranges of 468 km and 521 km, respectively.
