Mahindra Thar Rocks Gets Dolby Atmos: A Game-Changer for Lifestyle SUVs

Mahindra Thar Rocks now comes with a 9-speaker Harman Kardon system powered by Dolby Atmos.

The Mahindra Thar Rocks, a favorite of off-road enthusiasts, now comes with a stunning sound system. The AX7L variant comes with a 9-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with Dolby Atmos technology. This is the first time in the world that this type of sound technology has been introduced in a 4-channel SUV setup. This is a testament to Mahindra's commitment to making its SUVs with city style and high-tech features. The goal is to make music an immersive experience that suits adventurers.

Due to high demand for the Thar Rocks, deliveries have been taking longer than usual. To solve this, Mahindra has increased the production of the SUV.

Dolby Atmos technology is commonly used in theaters and smartphones. Now, with the same technology, the sound heard in the Thar Rocks SUV seems to come from all directions. Moreover, this system works to reduce road noise. Gaana streaming is also directly integrated with it, which is a plus point for music lovers.

The Thar Rocks is now not just an SUV that you take out on a weekend, but a stylish lifestyle vehicle. Many users on forums like Reddit and Team-BHP are praising it for its "excellent sound insulation." However, some have pointed out that the subwoofer intrudes too much into the boot space.

The AX7L variant is priced at over ₹25 lakh. While it competes with high-end SUVs, it will definitely connect with off-road enthusiasts thanks to its 4x4 capability and bold look.

Strategies that sense customer trends

65% of Thar buyers are leaning towards the top variants. In line with that, Mahindra is focusing more on premium features. Rivals like the Hyundai Creta and Tata Safari are competing well, but they still haven't matched the Dolby Atmos experience. With Mahindra increasing production, the delivery wait time has now come down to 3–4 weeks.

Thar Rocks – An SUV suitable for adventure and family use

Launched in September 2024, the Thar Rocks is a five-door variant of the three-door Thar. It comes with a 2.0-liter turbo petrol or a 2.2-liter diesel engine. Both automatic and manual transmissions are available. It is priced between ₹12.99 lakh and ₹23.09 lakh. Highlights include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, and a Harman Kardon audio system.

The 4th-generation ladder-frame chassis and electric power steering make it smooth and agile both on-road and off-road.

Thar Rocks on the rise

Mahindra is seeing rapid growth in sales with the Thar Rocks. In the fiscal year 2025, the Thar brand sold a total of 84,834 units. Of these, 45% were Rocks alone. With average monthly sales of 6,431 units in the first 6 months, the Rocks is ahead of the three-door Thar (3,853 units).

As of April 2025, Thar & Rocks combined sold 10,703 units a 74% year-over-year increase. Diesel variants are the most popular, with 10,040 units sold. It is noteworthy that the Thar series holds a 15% share in Mahindra’s total SUV sales.

The shift in consumer tastes is evident

With a five-door design suited to urban use and a 2,850 mm wheelbase, it appeals to everyday users. Features like Level 2 ADAS and a 360° camera enhance safety. With production capacity increased to over 9,000 units per month, the waiting time, previously up to 18 months, is now being reduced in some regions.

The Rocks are ahead of the competition

The Thar Rocks has a powerful diesel engine, 235 mm ground clearance, and a strong body design, helping it outperform models like the Maruti Jimny. The introduction of the Dolby Atmos audio system in May 2025, the reduction of three-door variants, and the planned 2026 facelift, all these moves are helping Mahindra secure a strong foothold in the lifestyle SUV market.
