KTM E-Duke Prototype Unveiled: Specs and Launch Details

A fully electric Duke bike was spotted in the Motohall display area at KTM’s headquarters in Mattighofen, Austria. This means that KTM is soon going to enter the world of electric vehicles. The Duke is likely to be the first electric model.

Development and Early Preview:

At its annual investor meeting in 2022, KTM said that it is developing this bike. Recently, KTM brand stunt rider Roc Bagoros shared a video in which this new E-Duke was seen. This video was shot in Mattighofen.

Battery and Powertrain Details:

Although official details about the engine and power are not available, the company has said that it will have a 5.5 kWh battery pack in 2022. This will power the electric motor that produces 10 kW of power. This battery is likely to have a range of up to 100 kilometers. Rather than a longer range, the goal is to provide an impressive riding experience to the users.

Design and Build:

Coming to the construction of the bike, it shares many features with the Duke 390 – trellis frame, aluminum swingarm, offset rear shock absorber, wheels, braking system, etc. However, the weight is likely to be lower, as the battery size is smaller.

Motor and Charging Setup:

In the video, the motor is located in the same place as the engine on the regular Duke. The rear wheel is powered by a chain drive system. The charging cable is visible on the top of the tank, which suggests that it has an integrated charger. This is similar to what we saw on the Bajaj Chetak – no need to carry a cable.

Styling and Features:

Coming to the side, the E-Duke prototype has a sharper design than the regular Duke. The large tank, aggressive tank extensions, and sharp headlamp design make it look like it belongs to the KTM brand. It has fully adjustable front suspension, a small TFT color display, and front and rear disc brakes.

Manufacturing and Market Plans

According to media reports, once the KTM E-Duke hits the market, it is likely to be manufactured in India by Bajaj – not just domestically, but also for overseas markets.
