Tata Motors May 2025 Sales Report: EV Growth, Export Surge & Market Trends

Tata Motors May 2025 Sales Report: Domestic Dip, CV & PV Stats, EV Growth, Harrier EV Launch, Export Surge, and Future Market Expansion Plans

Tata Motors May 2025 Sales Analysis

If the overall Indian automobile sector is slower than expected, then Tata Motors is also moving in that direction. The company sold 41,557 passenger vehicles in the domestic market in May 2025, compared to 46,697 units in the same period in 2024. This is a decline of 11 percent.

India's Domestic Market Situation

Decline in Domestic PV Sales Compared to 2024

According to current figures, domestic passenger vehicles were recorded at 41,557 units in May 2025. This seems to be a difference since 46,697 units were sold in May last year. This could be due to a number of reasons - mainly interest rates, vehicle price hikes, and changing consumer trends.

Tata Motors Domestic CV Sales Status

The commercial vehicle segment also saw some fluctuations. Total CV sales in May 2025 were 28,147 units, a decline of 5 percent compared to 2024.

Small Commercial Vehicles  - Sharp Decline

Small vehicles & pickups declined by 20 percent to 9,064 units. Experts attribute this to supply disruptions and rising costs.

Changes in Medium & Heavy Vehicles

HCV trucks declined by 10 percent to 7,106 units, while light and intermediate trucks increased by 11 percent to 4,954 units. This increase was due to changing demand in the market and easier leasing opportunities.

Tata’s Performance in Exports

PV Exports Increase

Tata exported 483 units of PVs to the overseas market. This represents a growth of 28 percent compared to 378 units in May last year. Although the number is small, it is a good indicator of competition.

Strong Growth in CV Exports

Commercial vehicle exports increased to 2,275 units in May 2025 from just 1,215 units in May last year, a growth of 87 percent. This indicates that Tata Motors is focusing more on global markets.

Tata’s Progress in the Electric Vehicle Segment

EV Sales Figures in May 2025

Tata has been showing a steady performance in the EV segment. 5,685 zero-emission vehicles were sold in May 2025, which is slightly better than the 5,558 units in May last year. This is not a big increase in percentage terms, but it indicates stability.

Steady Growth in the EV Segment

Tata has already launched several electric models in the market. These include the Tigor EV and Nexon EV, which are being well received. Now the focus is on the mid-size SUV Harrier EV.

Harrier EV - Tata Motors’ Future Hope

New SUV Features:

Harrier EV will be launched in 2025. It is a dual-motor EV in the mid-size SUV segment, which will set a new trend.

  • Dual Motor and AWD System:

This vehicle will have one motor on each axle. This means that it will have an all-wheel-drive system, which will give more torque, speed, and grip on all types of roads.

  • Battery Capacity and Range:

The Harrier EV will have a 75 kWh lithium-ion battery. It is expected to give a driving range of more than 500 km on a single charge.

  • Torque Output - Powerful Performance:

Tata claims that this vehicle will produce 500 Nm of torque. This means that it will once again stand as a fast, powerful SUV.

Market Trends & Consumer Trends:

Declining Trust in ICE Vehicles due high fuel prices, people are shifting from fuel vehicles to electric.

Expanding Electric Model Lineup:

Tata is aiming to expand its EV segment to the maximum. It is working on new SUVs, hatchbacks, and sedans.

Analysis Based on May 2025 Figures:

Overall, Tata managed to wholesale 70,187 vehicles in May 2025. This is a decrease of 8 percent compared to May last year. However, the stability in the EV segment and the launch of models like the Harrier EV give confidence in Tata’s future.

Conclusion

Although Tata has faced some slowdown as per the May 2025 figures, the Harrier EV and the increasing focus on the EV segment are the driving forces that can turn this around. Tata Motors has the potential to strengthen its position with a strong entry into global markets, technological advancements, and consumer confidence.
