Tata Motors has launched the Harrier EV, and we now have details on its most basic model. This electric SUV starts at ₹21.49 lakh (ex-showroom price). It aims to make owning an electric car easier for more people. You can start booking the Tata Harrier EV from July 2nd.
Power and How It Runs: The Heart of the Harrier EV
The entry-level Harrier EV is called the Adventure RWD. It comes with a 65 kWh battery. This battery sends power to the rear wheels, giving the car a strong 234 horsepower. We don't have the exact driving range for this 65 kWh battery yet. But Tata has said there will also be a bigger 75 kWh battery option, which can go an impressive 627 km on one full charge. This means even the basic model should be good for daily drives and longer trips.
The Harrier EV is built on Tata's special electric car platform called Acti.ev+. This platform is made just for electric vehicles, helping them perform better, be safer, and use less energy. The Harrier EV will compete with other electric SUVs like the Hyundai Creta Electric. But with its good price and features, it hopes to stand out.
Charging the Harrier EV will be quick. It supports fast charging up to 120 kW. This means you can charge the battery from almost empty (20%) to mostly full (80%) in just about 25 minutes. This makes long journeys much easier and helps stop worries about running out of charge.
Inside the Car: Comfort and Smart Tech
When you step inside the Tata Harrier EV Adventure RWD, you'll find a modern and comfy space. In the middle, there's a big 10.25-inch touchscreen. This screen works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto without needing wires, so you can easily connect your phone for maps, music, and calls. The sound comes from a good system with 4 speakers and 2 small speakers (tweeters).
For the driver, there's another 10.25-inch digital screen that shows all important information, including directions. The steering wheel is flat at the bottom and has buttons, so you can control things easily. Other useful features include cruise control (to keep a steady speed), a pad to charge your phone without wires, and fast USB-C charging ports.
Comfort is key. The car has keyless entry, automatic air conditioning, and a steering wheel that moves up, down, in, and out. The armrest in the front slides for more comfort. The driver's seat can be adjusted by hand for height and back support. The back seats can be folded down in parts, giving you more space for luggage.
How It Drives and Keeps You Safe: Built for Confidence
The Tata Harrier EV lets you choose how you want to drive. You can pick from modes like Eco (for saving energy), City, Sport (for a more lively drive), and even a fun Drift mode. For different roads, there are special settings like Normal, Rock Crawl, Mud Ruts, Snow/Grass, Sand, and a Custom mode. The car also has four levels of special braking that helps put energy back into the battery, controlled by paddles behind the steering wheel.
Safety is very important in the Harrier EV. It comes with 6 airbags to protect everyone inside. It also has disc brakes on all four wheels, a system to check tire pressure, and a helper for starting on hills. More advanced safety features include a system to keep the car stable (ESC), traction control (to prevent slipping), hill descent control (for going down steep hills), and a special parking brake that holds the car automatically.
Other helpful safety features include a sound system that warns people outside the car when it's moving slowly (AVAS), a rear window wiper, a clear reverse camera, and an anti-theft alarm. The front seatbelts can be adjusted for height, making them safer and more comfortable.
Outside Look and Practical Use: Simple Yet Cool
From the outside, the Tata Harrier EV looks a lot like the regular petrol and diesel Harrier. There are only small changes to show it's electric. The base model has stylish 18-inch alloy wheels with special covers. All the lights are LED, including the main headlights, daytime running lights, and connected tail lights, giving it a modern feel. It also has roof rails, steps on the side, lights that shine on the ground when you open the door, and headlights that stay on for a bit after you turn off the car.
One clever feature is the 67-liter 'frunk' space in the front of the car (under the hood) for the rear-wheel-drive model. This is great for storing charging cables or small items. The Harrier EV will come in five nice colors, including a special Stealth Black.
What This Means for the Car Market: Making EVs Easier to Get
The launch of the Tata Harrier EV, especially with its good price for the basic model, is a big step for Tata Motors in India's electric car market. By offering a well-equipped electric SUV at ₹21.49 lakh, Tata wants to attract more buyers who want an electric car but found them too expensive before. This move will likely make other car companies offer more affordable and feature-rich electric SUVs, which is good news for buyers.
In Short: Electric SUVs
The Tata Harrier EV base model is a strong choice in the growing electric SUV market. With its good battery, decent power, comfy inside, smart safety features, and useful design, it offers a great package for its price. As bookings open soon, the Harrier EV is set to make a big impact, helping India move towards a cleaner, electric future.
